In 1960's, the horror movies tended to focus on a main charcater, usually being a monster, with the rest of the movie showing how the other characters tried to defeat this monster. Examples of these movies would be films like 'The Blob' or 'The Fly'. In the 1970'S, horror movies changed from the previous decade as the biggest horror films from this era were more focused on psychological horror. Roman Polanksi's 'Rosemary's Baby

Comparison of Adele's and Kendrick Lamar's album covers
We can see clearly from the album cover that Adele’s album
‘25’ is going to be solemn. We can see this through the colour use with the
majority of the colour being black and white. However, Adele uses a sepia
effect to introduce a melancholic tone for the rest of the album. Adele also
uses a mode of address on her cover to entice in the potential listener.
Adele’s facial expressions connote that she is upset and has been unnerved by
someone or something. Moreover, the use
of a mode of address allows the listener to sympathise more with the music as
we can see the pain through her face. This album cover will attract her
audience as they will want to discover the source of Adele’s pain.
On the other hand, Kendrick’s album cover gives off a totally
different vibe. On this album cover, we see Kendrick looking away from the
camera and looking into the distance. This connotes that Kendrick is a deep
thinker and something is troubling him and by showing this on the cover, it
will entice his fans as they will now be expecting Kendrick to explain how he
feels in his lyrics. The title of the album, ‘good kid maad city’, intrigues
fans as we want to know more about the ‘maad city’ and why it is spelt like
that. Kendrick is dressed in regular clothing too show he hasn’t lost touch
with his humble beginnins like many of his competitors.
To conclude, Adele and Kendrick Lamar are both highly
successful in the music industry. Their fans are completely different so they
need to have different things to please their different fans.
'Kiss of a Vampire'
KISS OF A VAMPIRE
Dress And Gesture Codes.
. The woman on the left is wearing a
low cut dress shows that she has been objectified as a sexual object. The
woman’s breasts have been exposed and she is in a submissive position.
. The vampire himself is looking your
stereotypical vampire. His hair is slicked back, he has dark clothes on with a
red shirt and s surrounded by bats. Vampire is in control.
. The other woman with black hair is
with one hand protecting a man whilst at the same time she is fending off bats.
A contrast to the other woman's behavior.
There is dark imagery all over the
poster with blood, bats and woman screamingSemiotics
. Semiotics is an investigation into
how meaning is created and how meaning is communicated.
. In the image, there is a preferred reading that the color red symbolizes blood and death given the fact that it’s a horror film. Red could
also represent the elements of love in the film. This along with the gesture
codes of the woman on the right signify that there is also a sexual element in
this movie. The blonde haired woman is leaning back, showing her willingness to
be dominated by the vampire.
Gender
. One
of the two females is depicted as being a strong, fearless character as she is
seen fending off a attack of a bat whilst protecting her injured, male
companion. The other woman is conforming to the roles of a woman as she is
being submissive to the dominant (male) character. She has also been sexualised
as she has been positioned in a way to show she is powerless with her legs and
breasts exposed.
. Out
of the two males, one is the main character, the vampire. He is pictured as
being a dominant figure with him having control over the girls limp body. The
other man on the poster goes against the roles of a man as he can be
seen on the floor in pain with a woman protecting him whereas thought of
that it should be the other way round with the man protecting the woman
Objectification of Woman
The
male gaze is when the woman is positioned for heterosexual men to desire. Both
men and woman in the poster are made to look like sexual object, both through
dress and gesture codes.
