'Kiss of a Vampire'

KISS OF A VAMPIRE

Dress And Gesture Codes.
. The woman on the left is wearing a low cut dress shows that she has been objectified as a sexual object. The woman’s breasts have been exposed and she is in a submissive position.
. The vampire himself is looking your stereotypical vampire. His hair is slicked back, he has dark clothes on with a red shirt and s surrounded by bats. Vampire is in control.
. The other woman with black hair is with one hand protecting a man whilst at the same time she is fending off bats. A contrast to the other woman's behavior.
There is dark imagery all over the poster with blood, bats and woman screaming

Semiotics

. Semiotics is an investigation into how meaning is created and how meaning is communicated.
. In the image, there is a preferred reading that the color red symbolizes blood and death given the fact that it’s a horror film. Red could also represent the elements of love in the film. This along with the gesture codes of the woman on the right signify that there is also a sexual element in this movie. The blonde haired woman is leaning back, showing her willingness to be dominated by the vampire.

Gender
. One of the two females is depicted as being a strong, fearless character as she is seen fending off a attack of a bat whilst protecting her injured, male companion. The other woman is conforming to the roles of a woman as she is being submissive to the dominant (male) character. She has also been sexualised as she has been positioned in a way to show she is powerless with her legs and breasts exposed.
. Out of the two males, one is the main character, the vampire. He is pictured as being a dominant figure with him having control over the girls limp body. The other man on the poster goes against the roles of a man as he can be seen on the floor in pain with a woman protecting him whereas thought of that it should be the other way round with the man protecting the woman
Objectification of Woman
The male gaze is when the woman is positioned for heterosexual men to desire. Both men and woman in the poster are made to look like sexual object, both through dress and gesture codes.

  1. This is what will be excepted as a post- it is far more in-depth, uses good media language, contrasts ideas and gives examples to back up the points you have made.in future use 'denotes' and 'connotes' or 'the connotations are...'instead of 'means' ,'shows us' or 'tells us'
